Suggestions for February/March
Counting
Numbers to 100 (before, after, between, greater, less, what comes next, skip counting by
10’s)
10 Frames – students model equations to 10
Use number line – count on, count back, how many more…?
Estimate before counting (How many students will be absent this week? How many will
buy milk today?)
Guess My Rule
Focus: Objects – Teacher selects secret object and students ask yes or no questions
Calendar
How many days have past since…?
How many months until…? How many days have we been in school?
How many Saturdays do we have this month? How many days until…?, What is the date
of the last Monday? etc
Mixed Up Dates – What is mixed up? How do you know?
Identify patterns on the calendar, clap patterns, etc.
Daily Schedule
Post a schedule with digital and analog models (discuss purposes of both clocks)
and times to the nearest hour
Make a schedule for weekends (events in sequential order not time)
Weather
Model a different type of weather graph – compare to graph or chart from previous
month
Measurement
(includes daily schedule, calendar, coins, vocabulary such as how much
longer/shorter, taller, heavier/lighter, etc)
Intro a nickel – identify and count by fives
Directly compare length, weight or capacity of objects in the room
Clocks: intro digital and analog (purpose only)
