    The Everett Public Schools announces fall scholar-athletes
    Each season every high school in the Everett School District honors one male and one female student athlete who has a
    minimum 3.2 GPA, participates in a sport at the varsity level and is involved in the community. Coaches nominate students to
    the school's athletic director and the school's administrative team selects the students.
    "The scholar -athletes award program began in 2005 to recognize student athletes who may not be stars in competition but
    exhibit greatness in the classroom and in the community," says Robert Polk, director of athletics.
    The recipients of the fall, 2007 award from each high school are:
    Cascade High School
    Kristin Villanueva, volleyball — Kristin has a 3.79 GPA and is ranked 35th in her class of 432. Kristin is highly involved in her
    school and community. She currently serves as the ASB treasurer and the volleyball team captain. She organized freshman
    orientation and coordinated the Dig for the Cure event benefiting breast cancer research. She is also a member of the National
    Honor Society, earned the WIAA Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and was selected a first team All-Wesco
    defensive specialist in 2006.
    Paul Heer, football — Paul is a standout football and track athlete. In the spring of 2007, Paul was named the Herald Athlete of
    the Week and earned first team Wesco honors in track. Paul carries a 3.3 GPA and is a member of the National Honor
    Society. Beyond his school contributions, Paul helps with Special Olympics and at his church.
    Everett High School
    Katie Gebert, girls cross country — Katie is a co-captain on the girls cross country team. In her junior year she qualified for
    state and received the Most Inspirational Award from her teammates. Katie carries a 3.99 GPA and is involved in the school's
    leadership program.
    Andy Monro, boys tennis — Andy carries a 3.69 GPA while serving as the team's co-captain and working in leadership
    positions within the school. Andy is a model of great sportsmanship and dedication to the team.
    H.M. Jackson High School
    Richard Oam, tennis — Richard is a four-year lettermen in tennis and placed sixth at the 2007 state tennis tournament. He
    was the district champion in singles last year, and this year he is 13 -0. Richard carries a 3.68 GPA in honors and Advanced
    Placement classes and is a member of the Letterman's Club and Honor Society.
    Germaine Salmine, dance — Germaine carries a 3.41 GPA and is a captain for the Dance Team and contributes significantly
    to the team with her leadership, motivation, experience and personality. She is a true leader and motivates the team. Her other
    contributions to the school include vice president of Honor Society, a member of the H.M. Jackson High School Congress,
    Leaders of the Pack, DECA and Be the Change.
