Woodside Elementary principal chooses to return to classroom teaching

Executive Director of Human Resources, Lynn Evans, announced today, "It is with mixed emotions, that we announce that Wayne Kettler has decided to follow his heart and return to teaching and the classroom. On March 23, Wayne will be inspiring fourth-graders at Whittier Elementary School as their new classroom teacher. He is stepping in for a teacher who leaves on March 23 to take maternity leave."

In her announcement to district staff, Evans emphasized, "We thank Wayne for his strong, positive leadership at Woodside. In the three years Wayne has led Woodside, he and the staff have increased support for and attention to each student's academic and social growth. The students at Woodside have outperformed peers of similar demographic background on academic achievement tests, and the school is a happy home away from home for learning and working. The diverse student body and Wayne's energy and enthusiasm for life provide a rich learning environment for students and adults. Just check out the school's Web site ; everyone is singing! Thank you Wayne!"

Kettler began his education career teaching in 1985 in Granite Falls. He came to Everett in 1989 as a second-grade teacher at Lowell elementary where he taught for two years. He then returned to Granite Falls, first as a teacher then as a principal. Wayne was drawn back to Everett in 2006 when he was selected to be Woodside's principal.

Robin Imai, who has been assistant principal at Emerson and Hawthorne elementary schools over the past two years, has been appointed as interim principal at Woodside and will complete this school year in that position.
