- Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry tells why Mufatu is afraid of the sea. In the beginning of the story, Mufatu and his mother are on a boat in the sea looking for sea urchins. While out at sea, Mufatu and his mother are caught in a hurricane and pushed out to sea. Unfortunately, they lose part of their boat and then it flips over throwing them into the water. In the end, Mufatu and his mother swim to an islet and then Mufatu’s mother feeds him a coconut. Right after, she dies.
