      BOARD COMMENTS

Vice President Petersen said the Board is delighted to have Dr. Cohn on board. He reviewed the selection process and said Karst Brandsma’s service as Interim Superintendent was excellent. The District had a productive year. Board member Dutton extended her congratulations and said the District is fortunate to have someone who works on behalf of all constituencies. Board member Andrews extended her welcome and said the Board followed a long and laborious process to get to this point. She looks forward to Dr. Cohn continuing the good work of the District. Board member Madsen said she really felt the burden of responsibility during this superintendent search. The District has very bright hardworking people and she worried about finding someone to keep up with them, but she thinks that person is Dr. Cohn. This will be a wonderful situation for Everett’s students. She feels good about the future.

Dr. Cohn said it is an honor and a pleasure to be in Everett. We will have a great time together, but some challenging times as well. He stressed teamwork. The people in this room have been incredibly supportive and he looks forward to working with them. He feels comfortable about this move and recognizes it as an incredible opportunity. He recounted a story of the Port Angeles tribal communities who honored Dr. Cohn and his wife, Sue, last night as they sent off graduates. Dr. Cohn said his wife conveys her best wishes and regrets that she was unable to be here today. He thanked the Board for their trust and support.

Executive Director for Area One Jim McNally said the Administration deeply appreciates the Board. The District is in good hands. The Board exhibited great vision in finding Dr. Cohn.

Vice President Petersen thanked Jim for his comments and noted that teamwork is the key to success. The District has a culture and environment of working together and striving for high achievement and he looks forward to continuing to work with the superintendent and Leadership Team to keep up the spirit of achievement and collaboration.
