Five National Merit Semifinalists
Five seniors from Everett and H.M. Jackson high schools were notified that they are National Merit Scholarship Competition
Semifinalists. Everett High School semifinalists include Cindy Tian and Micheal Capeloto. H.M. Jackson's semifinalists are
Corinne Walters, Nicole Lee and Rachel Bhak.
These five students earned semifinalist status based upon test scores from the 2005 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude
Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). By maintaining their outstanding academic records, being
endorsed by their high school principal, and by submitting SAT scores that confirm the PSAT/NMSQT scores, each is eligible
to move to the status of finalists in the prestigious national scholarship competition.
Everett's student semifinalists are among 16,000 in the nation. Next spring, the field of finalists will be narrowed to 8,200.
Those students will earn scholarships in three areas: $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, corporate-sponsored scholarships,
and college- sponsored scholarships. These awards will be announced beginning in April.
