RE: | Athletic User Fees |
Dear Parents/Guardians: |
Recently, the Everett School District cut over $7 million from the 2009-2010 budget. Every department, including athletics, searched for areas to save money. To minimize the cuts to athletic programs, the district is implementing an athletic participation fee beginning in the fall of 2009. The fee will help cover some of the costs associated with athletics including transportation, officials’ fees, and coaching stipends. Students are still required to have an ASB card to participate. ASB fees assist with the purchasing of uniforms, balls and other equipment necessary to run the programs at your school. |
The district athletic fee is $75 per sport at the high school level and $25 per sport at the middle school level for the first child in a family. High school athletes will pay up to $150 per school year and middle school athletes will pay up to $75 per school year. Thus, a three sport high school participant will only pay for two of the three sports and middle school athletes will pay for three of the four seasons. Additional siblings playing sports at the same school during the same season will pay $50 per high school sport and $15 per middle school sport. These fees are part of the clearance process for each season. The fee must be paid prior to the first contest. Checks can be written to the Everett School District. Refunds would not be granted after the first contest of the season. |
Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will have their user fee waived. Others who are struggling financially may pay a discounted fee of $50 for high school athletics and $15 for middle school athletics. Payment plans can also be arranged with the building athletic coordinator. Donations to cover the cost of students who cannot afford the fee are appreciated. Confidentiality of the donors and the recipients will be maintained. |
Please do not allow the implementation of this fee to cause your student to drop out of athletics. Every student who wants to play a sport should turnout regardless of their financial situation. The district will do all it can to help those in need. If you have questions, please contact my office at 425-385-4260. |
Sincerely, |
