Thank you for all of the support you give the students and staff of EHS! Last
week was especially busy with athletic, choir and band events. I know that the
staff and students appreciate your support.
We have much to be proud of! The Boys’ Cross Country Team took 8
th
in the
WIAA 3A State Cross Country meet. We had a Girls’ Cross Country runner place
11
th
in the state meet. The Volleyball Team is going on to the state tournament
in Kennewick (
http://mywiaa.org/brackets/bbvb.aspx?
s=Volleyball&c=3A&y=2009 ). One of our swimmers is moving on to the state
meet this weekend
(http://wisca.org/Girlsstateresult/3agirls/2a.3a2009girlsfinalpsychsheet.pdf
) at
the King County Aquatic Center (
http://www.mercerwood.com/maps/kcac.html
).
We will have tennis players in the tournament this spring after their amazing
season. Though their seasons have ended, both the Football and Soccer teams
had a great run this fall. Both teams worked so hard until the very end under
terrible weather conditions beating tough opponents. Congratulations to all of our
fall athletes!
I wanted to share with you a new activity in which students will be participating
this year. Many of you are aware that we have been using the Academic
Tracker for the past two years during the registration process. We are taking this
to the next level. The counselors will be going into classrooms over the next
couple of weeks to begin the process of 4 year planning with Academic Tracker.
This will be a great opportunity for all students to begin the process of planning
for their high school classes based on a thoughtful process of planning for what
will happen after high school. Each student will be bringing home a pre-lesson
worksheet to help them explore strengths that can lead to a career they love. I
have attached copies of these forms in case your student forgets to bring them
home. While we certainly do not expect every student to know exactly what he or
she will be doing in the future, it is important to start planning early. Plans can
change. Students who have a goal for the future and a plan to carry it out, tend to
do better academically. The Academic Tracker will be updated at least yearly.
Eventually we will be taking the next step of adding Home Access to the program
so that you can plan with your child at home. This also gives the school projected
enrollment data so that we can begin planning for courses much earlier than we
do now.
Finally, just a reminder, there is no school tomorrow in remembrance of Veterans’
Day. We will be honoring Veterans in our annual assembly. I have attached the

Engineering Mentor Night at the UW Bothell
On Tuesday, November 17
th
from 6:00-8:00pm our campus, along with the Puget
Sound Engineering Council, will be hosting an Engineering Mentor Night. The event
will be located in the North Creek Events Center at UW Bothell. We have over 40
engineering professionals from 18 engineering fields coming to meet with students.
This event is for students to network with the professionals and explore educational
opportunities in engineering within Washington State.
Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

This K-12 workshop will debunk the myth that women engineers are a bunch of
nerdy wall flowers. This workshop will introduce K-12 girls to engineering and
allow them to do a hands-on experiment. A workbook on engineering,
engineering track classes to take in K-12 and further engineering resources will
be provided.
Students will be working in teams, designing and building a structure, and
challenging their engineering skills using only two building materials!

Wreaths Across America for Fallen Soldiers:
Our Be the Change club is holding a fundraiser to honor veterans for the
sacrifices they’ve made for our country. They are asking for support from friends,
family, and EHS staff. It is $15.00 to sponsor a wreath that will be placed on a
veteran’s grave, December 12
th
during yearly ceremonies. Proceeds are also
used to fund veteran and educational outreach. If you are interested in
sponsoring a wreath, please contact Shawna Clark or pick up an order form in the
mail room next to the outgoing mail before November 20th. Below is the
background information on the organization that heads the project.
Wreaths Across America is an organization pioneered by Morrill Worcester,
business owner of Worcester Wreath Company. Mr. Worcester was inspired
when at the early age of 12 he won a trip to the Nation’s Capital. Later in life, he
recognized that his success as a businessman was in large part, due to the
values of this Nation and the Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their
country. In 1992, his company found themselves with an excess of wreaths
nearing the end of the holiday season. Seeing an opportunity to make a boyhood
dream a reality, efforts to do something special with those wreaths began in
earnest. With the help of Maine Senator Olympia Snowe and the Maine State
Society of DC, arrangements were made for the wreaths to be place at Arlington.
