A Web-based newsletter for the staff of Everett Public Schools

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Thank you for making this first year as superintendent in Everett Public Schools unquestionably the most rewarding that I've known in 30 years as an educator. Sue and I were convinced that our decision to come to Everett just over a year ago was a "very good thing." Being a part of this Everett team has been exhilarating, has exceeded our expectations, and you have helped make it so.
On Thursday, Sequoia's seniors graduate, and on Saturday, students from Cascade, Everett and H.M. Jackson walk across the graduation stage. Although not all of our Everett team will be in the audiences, EACH of you has a share in the successes of those students sporting their caps and gowns. Your work at every grade level and in every departmental capacity has played a supportive role in our students' graduations. You have earned the right to celebrate right along with their families and other friends, and I know you’ll be with them in spirit.
Everett has justifiably earned a great deal of recognition for our districtwide commitment to help each student graduate. Inherent in that recognition, but not always overtly stated, is that graduation rate improvements begin with student-centered focus at preschool and elementary school. Graduation rate improvements continue and are possible because of consistently high expectations and personalized support at middle and high schools. At every level of our organization you’ve helped to make this dream a reality, and I can't wait to see what graduation rate growth we will make together in the years ahead!
This is indeed a community of lifelong learners! Amidst transition and graduation celebrations of Everett Public Schools students, many of you have personal and family educational accomplishments to note as well. Please take a moment to review this year's issue of We're Proud, our district's annual "hats off" to staff and staff families who have achieved their own educational milestones. I am terrifically impressed with our team’s sons’ and daughters’ remarkable accomplishments.
Thank you for maintaining the momentum!
Timely reminder
Before the end of this week, please also take time to "tell us what you think" about communications this year. It's been my goal to stay in touch with you routinely via email and with almost 200 school and departmental visits. I've endeavored to keep you in the loop about district initiatives and decisions and to showcase your accomplishments with other staff and the community. The annual staff communications survey will help me learn what has worked for you and what you'd like to see improved. The link is "live" through the end of the day on Friday, June 18. Thanks so very much for taking a moment to reflect about how this year's communications efforts have supported you in your good work.
August levy and voter registration
If you, someone in your family or a neighbor has not yet registered to vote, July 19 is the deadline for registering to vote in the Aug. 17 election. (Your school offices have voter registration forms; we'll send one to you from the Educational Service Center, or you can register online.) This year, the August primary election also includes a temporary Supplemental Educational Programs and Operations Levy for Everett Public Schools and neighboring school districts (Edmonds, Marysville, Granite Falls, and Northshore) Whether you live in this district or another school district, please remember to vote on Aug. 17.
Thank you again for making this a year of learning for each of our students. I truly hope your year was as wonderful as mine.
