1. SHS Senior Group Interview Workshops
  2. Lesson Plan:

SHS Senior Group Interview Workshops

Step One:

In September or early October, have every senior fill out the Post-High School survey (we do this through our English 4 and Government classes).

After the survey’s are complete, each counselor can tally their own student results to establish the small group interviews (approx 8 – 10 kids each). Group students by their post-high school plan interest area (i.e. 4 year University, community college, Military, Apprenticeship, work, unknowns, etc).

Step Two:

Invite seniors up to established small groups throughout October, November, and December (start with 4-year college applicants and “unknowns”). Send out invites a day before, or the morning of, the group meeting (so that they don’t lose their invitation that doubles as a hall pass). We hold our meetings in the Career Center which enables us to show students where to access applications, scholarships, testing info, etc.

- TIP: Use resources such as:

> Notes from WCHSCR Conference (in Sept)

> The Princeton Review

> Kaplan

> Associated Colleges of the Midwest (www.acm.edu )

3. Talk about where students are in their planning and preparation

Step Four:
