Subject: Trust Issue and Agenda Item

    Importance: Normal

    Hello:

We would like to express our disappointment with the way the transition to Aetna was carried out by the Everett School District.

The Trust relies on, for lack of a better word, trust between the Association and the District. The Trustees representing the District have near immediate access to all of the information at the District’s disposal. They are also directly in the chain of command with employees carrying out vital functions of Trust business. The Trustees representing the Association, however, do not have access to this information or chain of command. Instead, we rely on what is presented to us at Trustee meetings. When this information is incorrect, the Trustees representing the Association are making decisions with imperfect information. This leads to several issues.

At this point, it is clear the information presented to the Trust at the November 16, 2016 meeting was incorrect. We are also concerned with information presented at the September 14, 2016 meeting when rates were set. It is impossible to tell whether this was simply an oversight on the part of District employees or part of a larger plan to provide disinformation to the Trust for a larger aim. Due to the breach in trust between the District and Association Trustees, we honestly don’t have faith the District is providing full and complete information at this time.

The Trustees representing the Association are requesting a conversation about our transition to Aetna at our next Trust meeting. Please add this to the agenda.

Finally, we need to build trust together as we move forward so we can make honest, thoughtful decisions knowing that we have full information. We hope to work together in the future to rebuild the trust and positive relationship the Trustees have enjoyed over the years.

Please let us know if there are any questions.

    Respectfully,

Adam Goldstein, Susan Lindsey, Gregg Elder
