Access to computers for each student or part of the class
Exploring Career Options worksheet from October
Fact Gathering sheet
Lesson
-
Have students log onto a computer, or split the class so that some students are
using a computer and the rest of the students are engaged in an activity while
other students are using computers. Activities for the class could include a
backpack organization, reviewing goals and action plans, working on Homework or
reading silently (all activities help students be academically prepared and
ensure success!)
-
Have Students log on to the Internet and go to
WWW.WOIS.ORG
. Review the categories with students before they fill in their worksheet.
For more advanced students use
www.bls.gov/oco/ In the upper right hand corner they should see
OOH Search/A-Z index.
If they double click on this it will take them to a page where they can
research any career either by typing in the career title or searching through
an alphabetical list.
-
Have students fill out the Fact Gathering sheet
Options for Presentation
-
Have students share with the rest of the class their findings
-
Have students create a brochure advertising the Career they researched and have
students “sell their career to the rest of the class”-note this will
require additional class periods or a Language Arts/Home and Family teacher
who would like to collaborate
-
Have students write an Expository Essay describing their career and an
explanation of why they feel that this career is the “best fit” for
them at this time.
