Purpose
The purpose of the lesson is to help students understand the various skills
they will need to develop so that they are desirable employees (and so they can
get a job that they want)J

Materials needed:
Materials needed:
Each student will need paper and something to write with
Employability Skills Power Point (with computer and in focus to show the PP to
the class OR you can make overheads of each slide to use if easier. Video tape
“Fire me Please” (20 minutes).

Separate students into groups of 3-4 and have them make a list of the top 10
skills they think employers are looking for. After 5 min of discussion take
the lists from each group and tell them you will check at the end of the class
to see which group had the most correct.

Next show video Fire Me Please- have students record at least 5 things that the
employee does wrong and make note of what Employability Skills the employee is
lacking. This is a humorous video but is meant to address a serious subject
of having what it takes to get and KEEP a good job. Discuss with students why
the video was funny but would it be fun or funny to actually have to work with
someone like the person portrayed in the video?

Using the overheads review and have a discussion about the 3 types of
Employability Skills are necessary to obtain and KEEP a good job.

Relate this lesson to GROUP behavior and school behavior.
