Purpose : To help students understand how to create a 4-year high school plan and to create a DRAFT of their 4-year HS plan and a freshman schedule.

This is a great time to have as many adult helpers in class to work with students. Creating a 4-year plan raises many questions for student. Most of which cannot be pre-taught or pre-explained.

Materials needed:

Each student should use their copy of “My High School Planning Guide”
Course planning guides for feeder High Schools (Cascade, Jackson and or Everett)
Copies of “Sample 4 year Plans”

Lesson: Have each student open their High School Transition guide to page 22 titled “Creating a four year HS Plan”. NOTE the sample schedule for a HS Freshman. Point out that there are different schedules depending on

If a student takes Foreign Lang.
If a student takes Band or Choir

Use pages 22-23 in the planning guide as examples for students to plan their schedule. Be sure each student creates his or her freshman schedule. They will need to take their freshman schedule to their HS Transition appointment with their HS counselor.

Use the course guides for each High School to explain the math sequencing, English sequencing and science sequencing.
