b. Naming of Hawthorne Elementary School Library
The Hawthorne Ambassadors group, composed of former teachers, principals and graduates of Hawthorne Elementary School, have joined together to form an active organization dedicated to supporting the work of Hawthorne Elementary School in helping each student to succeed. They are also dedicated to preserving and honoring the work of those who have contributed to Hawthorne’s culture and accomplishments in the past. One who stands out as a person of significance in this regard is Shirley Walthall, former principal of Hawthorne and long-time District teacher and prominent community member. It is for this reason that the Hawthorne Ambassadors will be making the recommendation to name the library after Shirley Walthall in honor of her contributions and impact (ATTACHMENT).
