Continual improvement
Everett students consistently perform well on state and national
assessments. For the last two years, district state standards-
based scores, at every grade level and in every subject tested,
have been higher than state scores. Twice as many middle
school students are taking advanced math classes now than
were just two years ago. The on-time graduation rate has risen
from just 50 percent six years ago to 80 percent.
A living strategic plan
For more than 20 years, student learning
improvements have been framed by a strategic plan
with three main objectives – student learning, an
organization that supports student learning and
partnerships which enrich student learning. The plan
is revisited routinely by the community. The board of
directors and the administrative leadership team
partner each year to measure and adjust it. The plan
directs the superintendent’s work, the
superintendent’s staff and the schools. School board
meetings center around strategic plan progress
reports.
High standards; low turnover
Teachers and administrators frequently present at
state and national conferences and have been named
best-in-the-state in several categories. More than half
of Everett’s teachers have master’s degrees. High
expectations are rewarded with a high commitment
rate; nine out of 10 teachers stay in this highly
desirable system once they are selected to work here.
An experienced board of directors
Everett Public Schools five directors have a combined
tenure of nearly 50 years. As elected board members
with six-year terms of office, these dedicated officials
advocate on behalf of each student and exemplify
organizational governance by overseeing the district’s
progress toward strategic plan goals.
Careful and prudent financial management
Already highly rated, the district earned an improved
bond rating of AA from Standard and Poor’s in
September 2008. This places Everett among the six
highest ranking districts in the state; only one other
ranks higher.
In Everett you will have the opportunity to:
•
Prepare each student for his or her future in a
more global society;
•
Continue to serve the needs of each child at a
time when expectations and standards are
increasing and state and national funding is
declining;
•
Balance the state learning goals and federal
requirements while addressing the needs of
the whole child;
•
Work with excellent staff in a supportive
community in quality facilities with high
functioning, interrelated support systems;
•
Inspire high performance from an already
high-performing, continually improving and
professional staff who use modern and job-
appropriate technologies to enhance student
learning and ensure seamless support
operations; and
•
Engage a diverse community in partnerships
that maximize each child’s learning.
