Students from two Everett high schools compete in Transatlantic Soccer Bridge
Everett School District’s H.M. Jackson and Cascade high schools German Club students and teams
from seven other Washington high schools will compete on Saturday, May 9 in an international
soccer tournament.
This is the eighth year that Jackson students and the German Club from Cascade have played
“football” in this tournament sponsored by the American Association of German Teachers (AATG),
Goethe Institute (San Francisco branch), and the Zentralstelle fuer das Auslandsschulwesen (ZfA),
which is also known as the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad.
German teachers from around Washington take an active approach to teaching, emphasized Dietsch.
“We are constantly looking for ways to engage our students. Playing soccer may be nontraditional
when compared to classroom learning, but it is one of the creative ways we help students grasp the
culture connected to the German language.”
The tournament at Kasch Park at 8811 Airport Road in Everett, begins with kickoff at 9:15 a.m. and
will last until approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
