Peter Scott to be Gateway Middle School Principal

Peter Scott, who has been assistant principal at Evergreen Middle School in Everett for the last two years, has been selected

to become principal at Gateway Middle School starting with the 2008-09 school year.

Gateway's leadership position became available in the spring of 2007 when then -principal Cathy Woods was named as

principal of Cascade High School. For 2007-08, Eldon Allen served as Gateway's interim principal.

Scott's route to education was not a direct one. He graduated with a sociology degree from UC Davis. Then he entered the

Teach for America program and was smitten with education. He taught in special education classrooms in Oakland, Calif., and

then earned a master's degree in education from Harvard. He taught in Boston before moving to Washington State to be

closer to his wife's family.

When introduced to the school board in his new role, Scott said, "I feel very comfortable at Gateway. They put kids first;

collaborate with parents; are all about teaching and learning, and they like to have fun. I am privileged and honored to have

been selected to work with them side by side." Scott will lead the transition at Gateway which will go from a school of over

1,000 to a school of just under 700 students when the revised middle school boundary changes go into effect this fall.
