EHS soccer girls win District Championship and state academic award
With their 1-0 win over Shorecrest on November 2, the Everett High School girls soccer team secured the District 1
championship and qualified to enter the state tournament which begins Wednesday, November 8.
But win, lose, or place in the state tournament, the girls are already winners off the field. The Washington Interscholastic
Activities Association (WIAA) announced that the Everett High School girls soccer team is the 2006 3A State Academic
Champion. Together, the girls have a combined GPA of 3.73! The seasonal academic award is based upon all players on the
varsity roster — in this case 18 EHS girls.
"We are blessed with student athletes who strive to be the best on and off the playing field," said Everett High School Athletic
Coordinator Jo Levin. "The team this year has really put forth a great effort in all they do; they are true leaders in the school
and the community!"
Levin noted that the team's four seniors have pushed unwaveringly through four grueling years of rebuilding. As freshmen,
their win/loss record was 1-15; as sophomores they won two games but lost 17. They hit their stride as juniors last year and
ended the season 7-8-1. This year they are heading into the state tournament with an impressive 11-5-3.
The soccer girls are among other impressive Everett High School teams this fall. Two other teams are also District 1
champions — boys cross country and girls volleyball. It is a huge deal for three teams from the same school to win three
district championships in one season, notes Levin. We are extremely proud of the efforts these individuals have put forth. The
rich tradition is continuing for the "School of Champions."
