Everett Public Schools custodial and maintenance staff shine
Maintenance and Operations Director, Gary Jefferis, demonstrated the efforts of Everett Public Schools custodial and
maintenance staff over the summer with an impressive list of numbers at the September 12 school board meeting. The
numbers show the expanse of this district and the level of work and commitment it takes to keep it at top shape.
l
200 acres of play fields, were mowed each week;
l
16 acres of flower beds, maintained around schools and school offices;
l
12.5 miles of fences, inspected and repaired;
l
700 gallons of paint used to stripe parking lots and restore school walls inside and out;
l
34,000 lock cores, replaced in the bond-approved security project and more than 8,000 new keys are checked out to
staff; and
l
2.7 million square feet of roofs were inspected to check for potential leaks during the upcoming wet season.
All of this and more was done by just 125 maintenance and custodial staff who complete more than 7,000 work orders in our
schools each year and give us reason to smile at our reflections in those shiny, newly scrubbed floors (1.2 million square feet
of hard flooring in the district).
