Members of Everett High Cheer Squad selected for Hawaiian cheer camp
On Feb. 10, six Everett High School cheerleaders were presented with leis
and learned that they will be in Hawaii soon after the last day of school. From
June 25 through July 2, they will be at the University of Hawaii with cheer
squads from around the country. Working with renowned cheer coaches on
four main areas: cheer, motion, technique, dance, stunting and leadership
skills.
While living in the dormitory at the university, team members will enjoy
learning from other groups and be able to take in some of Hawaii's scenic
excursions and cultural experiences. "Of course, they will have a chance to
learn to dance the hula," noted Rachelle Whitfield, the team's coach. "But
more importantly, they will build personal and performance skills and have an
experience of a lifetime."
Although members of the Everett High School cheer team, the Hawaiian
cheer camp is not a school-sponsored activity. The girls will be raising funds
to pay for their trip with car washes and other activities between now and the end of the school year. "One of the ways this trip
will be even more meaningful is how hard the girls will work to make it a reality," said Whitfield. "They have practiced diligently
to earn this honor, and they will maintain that focus through the fundraising efforts."
