Arts Council of Snohomish County to honor student artists
More than 100 artists from Eisenhower, Gateway and Heatherwood middle schools, and Cascade, Everett and H.M. Jackson
high schools will see their work hang in the historic Monte Cristo gallery beginning in February. The works of these seventh -
through twelfth-graders will hang with submissions from other students across the county to recognize their creative
achievements and the supportive instruction of their teachers. District art instructors Britt Barer, Jennifer Heller, Susan Hines -
Elizinga, Yvonne Linnabary, Julie Long, Joye Melby, Ann Morgan, Teresa Redd, Sean Robinson, Kaja Smith, Greg Stair, Bill
Trueit, Rick Wigre, parents and students will attend an awards event on Feb. 17, which opens the public showing of the
students'work.
The gallery hours for the local show are:
Monday, Feb. 16, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 17, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 18 - 19, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 - 22, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Alexandra Manea, a senior at H.M. Jackson High School received the Susan Jane Russell Art Scholarship, an award of
$1,000 for tuition. This award is given to an outstanding art student who plans on attending a community college, college,
university or art school in the fall of 2009, majoring in the visual arts or arts education. Alexandra also received Silver Key
awards for her individual entries,
Musica de Acasa
and
La Revedere Tatal Meu
in the 2009 Snohomish County Regional
Scholastic Art Awards.
For 100 students, the downtown gallery showing is just the start of more visibility and potentially more recognition of their
talents. Those who earned Gold Key and Best of Show Awards know their submissions will be sent in digital form to New York
for the National Scholastic Arts Award program in March.
