    RE: Athletic User Fees

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Due to additional cuts to the Everett School District operating budget we are increasing the Athletic User Fees for the 2010-2011 school year. The school board has adopted a fee of $100 for each high school sports season and $40 for each middle school sports season. There is no discount for multi-sport athletes or families with multiple students. This fee increase eliminates cuts to athletic programs.

The fee helps cover some of the costs associated with athletics including transportation, officials’ fees, and coaching stipends. Students will still be required to have an ASB card to participate. ASB fees assist with the purchasing of uniforms, balls and other equipment necessary to run the programs at your school.

The athletic fee is part of the clearance process for each season. A student becomes eligible to compete in a contest after the fee is paid. It is recommended that fees NOT be paid until after the teams are selected. Write checks to the Everett School District. Refunds will not be granted after the first contest of the season.

Understanding that times are challenging for many families, the district will enact a waiver or payment plan for families who cannot afford the fee. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will have their user fee waived. Others who are struggling financially may contact their building athletic coordinator for consideration of a payment plan or reduced fee. Donations to cover the cost of students who cannot afford the fee are appreciated. Confidentiality of the donors and the recipients will be maintained.

Please do not allow the implementation of this fee to cause your student to drop out of athletics. Every student who wants to play a sport should turnout regardless of their financial situation. The district will do all it can to help those in need. If you have questions, please contact my office at 425-385-4260.

    Sincerely,
