Gateway Middle School hosts first Family Astronomy Night on Wednesday
April 27 event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. features program on Hubble Space Telescope
Amateur astronomers from nine different local astronomy clubs have volunteered to share their time and
expertise to create a stellar event for Gateway students and families. Among the activities, Ron Hobbs of the
Museum of Flight, the keynote speaker, will share stories and history of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Rich Lienesch will use the large, indoor, inflatable Museum of Flight planetarium to introduce participants to the
night sky with the intent to spark a long-term interest in all things celestial.
Those who come to the evening will take part in making and launching stomp rockets and seeing and touching
meteorites. The entire evening is full of star-related activities including art projects, gazing through telescopes
and 3-D glasses,
Astronomy Jeopardy
, and other hands-on interactive activities designed to inspire star-gazing
and learning about the fascinations and lessons possible in the world of astronomy.
Special thanks goes to Everett Public Schools Foundation for providing the grant and the astronomy clubs who
are making the event possible and so engaging.
