Say “goodbye” to View Ridge Elementary and take away a piece of the big top
School’s unique playground cover to be torn down as school is rebuilt
On Friday, May 20 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at View Ridge
Elementary (202 Alder St., Everett) pieces of the school’s
most characteristic architectural feature will go home in
the hands and pockets of those who come to walk the
hallways one last time.
Originally opened in 1954, the school has been modified
over the last 60 years with the latest addition of a wing in
1981 for the district’s special services department support
staff.
At the end of this school year, View Ridge Elementary
with its unique big top canopy entrance and covered play
area will be no more. The school is being rebuilt as part of the district’s 40-year cycle of school
modernizations which was approved by voters in the 2006 school construction bond.
View Ridge construction will continue from spring 2011 until fall 2012, when students will enter a new
school and a new phase of the school community’s history. During school year 2011-12, the
construction work will proceed while students and staff transition from area to area during the stages
of demolition and construction. The district has honed this
construct-while-school-is-in-session
process well over the years, having continued to hold school while remodeling or rebuilding Cascade
High School, Eisenhower Middle School, Emerson, Silver Lake, Garfield, Whittier, and Jefferson
elementary schools since the year 2000.
“With so many years at the heart of this community,
we know we will have many people wanting to walk
their old school hallways once more,” said Principal
Kert Lenseigne. “This will be a time for history and
future to merge as those who attend share their
stories and see the design of a new school where
other stories will be written for yet another
generation. We are both sad and excited for the
project to begin.”

In addition to walking away with a piece of the big top, those who attend are invited to write a View
Ridge memory on a postcard. Those cards will be saved and included in a time capsule that will be
set when the new school is dedicated – sometime in the 2012-13 school year.
