Cascade High video teacher earns $2,000 grant from The Intermec Foundation
Intermec Technologies
authorizes grants for employee-nominated K-12 program
This spring, CHS video production teacher Scott Shafer was presented a $2,000 check because one
of his students believed strongly in the power of Shafer’s teaching. Michael Packer, an 11th-grader in
Shafer’s video production class, nominated Shafer for an award through Intermec Technologies – a
local supply chain technology company located in Everett. Leon Packer, Michael’s father, works for
Intermec, and the company’s foundation makes such grants available to employee families who
nominate a worthy school program.
In the nomination form, Michael wrote, “This world-class video production class combines technology
with skill to train students in the art of film production, public service announcements, and training
videos. The program instills training for certification in Adobe Photoshop as well as skill-building for a
future in news, television, public service announcements, and short or long films/movies.”
The nomination and resulting gift of funds from Intermec are welcome in the eyes of Shafer who plans
to use the money to buy some video equipment and audio gear for his classroom.
