Minority Achievers Program scholarships for two Everett High students
Evergreen Middle School staff honored for leadership support
At the 11th annual Recognition and Scholarship Banquet on May 25, two Everett High School
students, Domineek Bufford and Alisa Rud, each received scholarships from the YMCA of Snohomish
County Minority Achievers Program (MAP).
Students and adult supporters from across the county were recognized at the banquet. In the past
11 years, MAP has provided more than 80 scholarships worth $45,000 to deserving MAP students.
The Minority Achievers Program is designed to motivate and support students of color and immigrant
students ages 11-19 to achieve high educational and career goals.
MAP is structured around six program components: Educational success, career exploration,
community relations, parent support and involvement, scholarship opportunities, and adult/youth
mentors.
Evergreen Middle School, Ed Glazer, Joe Coverson and the leadership of Dr. Stewart were honored
with the Ray Sievers Adult Achievers Award. This award is recognition of outstanding leadership and
support of the YMCA of Snohomish County MAP Community Connection.
At the banquet, Ed Glazer, chair of the MAP Advisory Committee and a teacher at Evergreen Middle
School, reminded the students that, “You are not alone in your journey through the school system.
There are adults here to help you.”
Support from EverTrust Foundation, American Distributing Company, and the Seattle Foundation
makes the scholarships possible. Scholarships are in the amounts of $500 to $1,000. “We try to
inspire our graduating seniors to go on to college,” said J.J. Frank, MAP director. “These scholarships
get the kids going and on their feet as they transition from high school to college.”
