| Help students navigate through the WOIS portfolio system. A system they will continue to use throughout high school. Students will also begin exploring career opportunities and career interests. |

| Discuss Goal of the Day (5-10 minutes)

Today we will be completing a Scavenger Hunt to help you become more familiar with the information available to you in the WOIS portfolio system. You will also be completing a Career Interest survey.
Day 1:

Go over the WOIS Scavenger Hunt Activity: (You will be having students work in partners to fill out the worksheet!)

Discuss with the students:

| Why is it important to learn this portfolio system?

| Students will complete a Career Interest Areas assessment and begin to research career choices, including the education level needed for their career choice.

Discuss with the students:
o
| Why is it important to think about what interests you have when it comes to a future career opportunity?

| Computer Work (40 minutes)
|
It is now time to log into WOIS and get started. If you have any questions please raise your hand.
o
| Even though students are working on their own computer they will buddy up with those next to them to work in groups to complete the Scavenger Hunt.
|

| Students will then answer questions on their own worksheet for the career interest assessment and save sections to your portfolio in WOIS.
|
o
| Students will turn in their WOIS Scavenger Hunt worksheet.
|
o
| Students will save their career interest area results in their portfolio. And if asked will be able to answer a career they found interesting and the education level needed to pursue that career.

Steps for Scavenger Hunt

Getting Started:
Go to the WOIS web site at
www.wois.org
. Log in to WOIS with your Site Key. Find the answers to the questions below.
1. What are two occupations in the Installation, Maintenance, and Repair
Cluster?
2. If a person expressed an interest in teaching people, with which cluster
would you have them start?
3. How many occupations are found in the Science Career Path at the entry
level?
4. If a person expressed interest in education in the area of Animal Sciences, where would you have them start?
5. How would a person find the schools that offer training for Animators and Multi-media Artists?
6. Name two ways to find the web site link for Art Institute of Seattle?
7. How many Theological colleges are in Washington?
8. What careers might I consider with a degree in Agriculture?
9. Where do I find a search for national schools and scholarships?

Steps for Career Interest Areas
Day 1 Continued:
1. Go to
www.wois.org
and log on with your Site Key. If you are not asked for a
Site Key, go to Step 2. (You should still be in WOIS after completing your Scavenger Hunt activity.)
2. Click on “Assessments” in the navigation panel on the left side of the screen.
3. Click on “Career Interest Areas.”
4. While taking this survey of your preferences, quickly select the activity that you
would prefer. Don’t spend much time thinking about it. Go with your first
impression.
5. When you finish answering all the questions, type your name in the box, then
click on “Find my interest areas.”
6. Save the results to your portfolio by clicking on Save to My Portfolio.
7. Enter the Portfolio User ID and Password that you created for your Portfolio log
in. (Remember your User ID and Password is your student ID #.)
8. Click “Login.” Your Career Interest Areas Activity was successfully saved in the
Assessment Results section of your WOIS Portfolio.
9. Click on “return to Career Interest Area Activity.”
10. Begin answering the questions on your handout, you can always save information back into your portfolio!
