    Playground Goals

    Give students guidelines for safe , happy, and constructive playground

    behavior.

    Help students get along with eac h other.

    Help make recess fun for everyone .

    Have consistent expec tations for responsible behavior.

    Encourage student responsib ility and reduce the need to correct misbehavior.

    Playground Guidelines

    Students will :

    1. Respect authority and directions of all playground supervisors.

    2. Show respect to everyone;

    No name calling, offensive or hurtful things said to others.

    Respect people�s spac e by keeping hands and feet to self.

    3. Stay within playground boundaries and away from off limit areas. See map

    Students must be visible to playground supervisor at all times.

    Bus lane/road off limits wit hout supervisor�s permission.

    Play games only in designated and approved areas.

    4. Walk on all blacktop areas unless playing an organized game (Basketball,

    kickball, etc.)

    5. Get a pass to leave the playgr ound for health room or bathroom.

    6. Have all games open for play, no excl usion or reserving equipment.

    7. Stop playing and walk to designated areas when the bell rings or a whistle is

    blown.

    8. HAVE FUN!!!

    Games not allowed:

    1. Tag or Tackle Football (may play Fliers Up or catch.)

    2. Chicken fighting or pushing

    3. Dodge ball

    4. Kicking balls on roof

    5. Slid ing or rolling down hill

    6. Other games unsafe by the playground supervisor

    For physically dangerous behavior , illegal acts or gross subordination

    supervisors are to send students to the office and fill out an office referral

    form.

    Equipment Rules

    Tetherball

    1. Do not sit on the ball.

    2. Do not fling the ball.

    Parallel Bars

    1. Have hands on the bars.

    2. Climb down; do not jump off bars.

    3. Take turns on gymnastic and monkey bars with no more than one student on

    the equipm ent at one time. No sitting on top monkey bars.

    4. Cross in same direction.

    5. �Penny drops� not allowed (hang by k nees on a bar then flip over to the

    ground).

    Slides/Blue Toy

    1. One student going down the slide at a time.

    2. DOWN ONLY on the slide.

    3. Cross in same direction on monkey bars.

    4. No tag type games on equipment

    5. Move away from bottom of the sli de and get in line when turn is over.

    Field

    Students should not:

    1. Climb or play on bleachers or ba ckstops

    2. Tease/bother neighbor hood animals

    Supervision Responsibilities

    Para-educ ators assigned to playground supervision are directly responsible for

    consequences for behavior. Office inte rvention should be reserved for physically

    dangerous behavior, illegal acts, or gross insubordination. Classroom teachers

    are expected to support the decisions of the playground supervisors, but the

    playground supervisors and the principal are responsible for consequences

    1. There will be two or more supervisors on the playground.

    2. Supervisors will circulate about the playground and avoid standing in one

    place.

    3. Supervisors will direct conflicts to conflict managers whenever possible.

    4. Supervisors will not engage in long conversations with other adults or

    students.

    5. Supervisors will avoid pl aying ga mes with students.

    6. Supervisor s will apply the 3:1 rule. Make 3 positive comments to one

    reprimand.

    7. When a student violates a rule the supervisor will give a verbal reprimand

    first, using a firm but respectful voice. An office referral will be used for

    physically dangerous, illega l, or insubordinate behavior.

    8. Supervisor will use the follo wing protocol for consequences:
