Marketing/DECA

Cascade High School Junior has been awarded a $1,000 DECA Safeway scholarship!

 

Area 1 DECA Student of the Month for October and December

 

Two CHS DECA students attended the DECA Fall Leadership Conference

 

Eighty-three students signed up for Area 1 Competition (Monroe regional)

 

Twelve Cascade DECA students completed a 30 page written DECA project (seven projects qualified for State)

 

Over seventy DECA students participated in Safeway Takeover

Twenty- Five DECA students assisted in the CHS High School and Beyond Night

Over Sixty CHS students along with Jackson participated in the International Economic Summit

 

Two students have been recognized as Cascade and Area 1 DECA Members of the Month.

 





CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT

All competitors will receive a Certificate of Achievement recognizing the achievement necessary to qualify to participate in the International Career Development Conference.

One student won a medal for his hospitality and tourism professional selling presentation, and competed in the finals for this event.

Digital Photography

Cascade photography students received three gold key awards and five silver awards in the 2011 Scholastic Art Awards. Awards received last spring were Best of Show in the Black and White Photograph

 





Video Production

Adobe grant $2000 plus software and training

$1000 grant for Canon T2i from Bruin Community Partners

 





Technology

Cascade High School students in video production class made $700 for their school video club, and are helping local businesses generate customers.

 

 

Auto

One student in an AYES internship, Action Auto Parts

 

Four students working in the industry, Les Schwab, Action Auto Parts, Ivan’s Car Clinic, Handy Andy Tool Rental in Shoreline

 

Four students competing in the regional skills competition two in Auto Maintenance and two in Auto Service

 

Four students taking and passing ASE certification tests, passed Steering and Suspension and Brakes,

 

Auto instructors from Puget Sound Skills Center, Sno-Isle Skills Center, Decatur High, Sumner High, Auburn High, Bellevue High, West Seattle High, Kentridge High, Federal Way High and Puyallup High designed a competition with a skills test in Automotive Technology, Automotive Maintenance and knowledge of Skills USA.

 

Students competed at 10 different test stations in the automotive shop in tests that included:

Tire Changing

Component Identification

Digital Information usage

Battery testing

Disc Brake assembly

Wheel Alignment

Digital Multi-meter usage

Drum brake assembly

Ignition systems

Automotive Computer test equipment usage

 

Winning students 1st , 2nd, and 3rd place in the service contest and in Maintenance. As well as progressing to the state competition in Yakima in April, winners received prizes from Fluke Corp. and Cornwell tools

Art/Graphic Design





   2010-11

Jackson High School AP Art and Graphic Design Students, have been selected to have their art works become part of a permanent exhibit at the new Swedish Medical Center.

 

Students will have their works be displayed in the Swedish Medical Center which is building a new campus in the South Everett/Mill Creek area, located just off I-5 on 128th St. The medical center will offer a full-service Emergency Room and physician offices. In an effort to be an engaged community partners and improve the healing environment the new facility has selected these artworks featuring these young adults. The images selected are to be turned into long-lasting pieces of art to showcase in the new Swedish facility. There will be a grand opening celebration that will include recognizing the students and their resulting art pieces.

Marketing

Intro to Marketing classes completed the Economic Summit (summative) – curriculum provided by the Federal Reserve

 

The DEN at Jackson High School has been awarded Gold Certification. Along with this honor, our Timberwolves have been selected to send three students to the School Based Enterprise Academy at the International Career Development Conference. The students will be recognized on stage in   front of over 15,000 members and honored guests at the Opening Session and will attend the multi-day Academy to learn about ways to improve our school based business. In addition to this, they will be representing the State of Washington, by presenting to a panel of corporate employees from Otis Spunkmeyer, the sponsor of this program.

 

National DECA organization congratulating Jackson High students on submitting the best project from across the country. They made a request to publish the HM Jackson Timberwolves project online for future student businesses to use as a model. This is a HUGE honor for us and we look forward to seeing our business on the National DECA webpage.

 





Business Education

Two students applied and were accepted to University of Washington ACAP Summer Program. The program introduces the qualified participants to the accounting, business, economics and finance professions through an educational and interactive curriculum involving accounting, business, economics and finance professionals, University of Washington Faculty, business, government & community mentors and ACAP alumni.

ACAP’s summer residency week program is for qualified sophomores, juniors and seniors in enrolled in high school throughout the Greater Seattle/Tacoma areas. This educational and motivational week is held annually, since 1982, at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. Students are immersed in the college experience for the week, residing on campus, utilizing student services and classroom facilities as well as learning how to budget and manage interactively in a college environment.
