· Program update and status. Smith and Olsen visited 4 dealerships over spring break. Ryan Holmes Klein Honda and Steve Lowry Performance Nissan have volunteered to serve on the committee and participate in job shadows. | ||
· Recert. Pennington inquired about status of recert, Smith reports that documents from NATEF should arrive this spring/summer for a fall mid-term audit by committee |
· Budget. Pennington inquired about status of budget. Smith reports that budget is on a “as required” status and day to day expenditures are being covered by labor profits. |
· Job shadows – Smith has list of students that he will email to participating dealerships including expectations of students while at the job site. Students will attend 8:00AM to 2:00PM. Pennington suggested that students transfer from Pignataro to Performance at 11:00AM so they can experience both dealers. Pignataro will provide transportation for safety reasons. Students will shadow between the 26th and the 30th. |
· AYES – Olsen and Smith report that Cascade has 4 – 6 possible interns that will be interviewed and screened in May. Olsen/Smith reported that due to the tenuous job market and auto industry any entry level dealership job was appreciated for qualified students and they would not insist upon the rigid standards of previous years. Students employed as lot or shop attendants would be fine as an opportunity to move into tech positions in the future. |
· End of Year Testing – Smith has met with Fender re NATEF/ASE requiring a $15.00 test fee. Skills club members will have the fee paid out of club funds but non-club member students will have to pay the fee themselves. The test will be mandatory for club members and voluntary for non members. Olsen reports that the testing window is open and Smith will schedule testing for early June. |
· Mentors – Smith reported on Fenders idea of mentors working with students year round and with the curriculum as well as shop activities. The committee was accepting and there was discussion around how to make this work Pennington and Lowry will consider means of implementing this without impacting the mentors financially and personally. |
· Summer Training – Smith will not be attending the AYES conference in Florida due to costs. Neale reported on Renton’s recent recert process and emphasized the importance of 20hrs yearly instructor training. Smith reported that he satisfied these years’ requirements at the fall conference in Renton and Olsen reports that SLCC is working on a training program for this summer which Smith will attend. |
· End of Year Barbeque – Smith will work on dates for the BBQ which will once again be held at Casa Smith/Reynolds in Eastmont, Everett. Smith is suggesting the 6th of June at 4:00PM for a date. |
