1. Call to order Pennington


 
2. Welcome and update from Smith. Smith reported on summer AYES conference. Honda has offered a Express Lube program to AYES schools and Smith will try it with select students. Smith reports that 3 2011 graduates are attending SLCC in the GM and Honda programs and also had 3 AYES interns in the industry this summer.


 

Skills USA club has been organized. Smith took leadership team to the leadership conference in Renton.

 

Smith discussed interview process of potential candidates for AYES internships this summer. Pennington inquired as to number of qualified candidates, committee will interview successful candidates in the Spring.

 
3. Meeting dates for 2011/2012 school year are as follows – February 15th – 5PM in the auto shop. May 16 – 5PM in the auto shop.


 
4. AYES reports from Ron Olsen. Ron reports that ASE is working with assigning AYES students with id numbers. At present they wish to use student SSN but there are significant concerns over this. Ron reports on the accreditation model using certifications from SP2, Valvoline, Lift Institute and ASE end of program testing. Fender reports that OSPI will only accept ASE testing as valid. Olsen is meeting with Denny Wallace from OSPI on Monday and will address these issues with him and report back to us. Olsen also reports that the ASE training expo is the only NATEF required training available this school year. Smith has indicated he intends to attend again.


 
5. Job Shadows – Olsen encouraged job shadows again for students, Smith, Pennington, Lowry and Fischer will work on a schedule and program for students to shadow at their facilities.


 
6. Student Mentoring - an idea submitted by Fender was to connect select potential interns with a mentor (either a committee member or a dealer tech) to act as a mentor to students. Ideas of what they would do where:


 
· Weekly/monthly lunch
· Advise in tech/career matters
· Advise in life/personal matters
· Work with student to achieve school/work success
· A big brother/sister kind of model


 

Smith/Fender will continue to work with this idea. Smith will put it on the Skills Club agenda for next meeting.

 
7. Skill USA – Smith, DelPuerto, Holboy and Hilary Mayan are again organizing the Puget Sound competition. It will be held at two facilities this year to accommodate more schools. The Tech compt will be at Sno-Isle and the Maint will be at Cascade. The instructor team will meet on the 15th at Sno-Isle to work out details. The Skills club will meet this thurs the 13th to design Program of Work and work on years activities.
