Discussion Items:
Student Recognition
Comments began with teaches sharing current forms of student recognition. For video, graphic arts, and photography current recognition strategies include the following: participation in local and regional contests, static displays throughout schools, participation in individual and district open house events, district web sites, and promotional items like bookmarks using examples of student art.
Recommendations from our community members included having student graphic art of photography work enlarged to large formats as big as 24” X 36.” Other outstanding recommendations included having students participate in gallery showings and to have collections published in various book formats that could also be used in fund raising for the program.
Program Growth & Marketing
Committee members agreed that the best promotion of our programs was to continue to provide student recognition in the forms already used and to add as many of the recommendations as possible.
Student Intern Opportunities
Glen said that interns worked at Lumina on a regular basis. Programs varied from a half day of work every week to no more than two full days of work a week. Currently, four employees started as interns. “We depend on them.” added Glen.
When asked how students could participate in internship opportunities through businesses like Lumina, Carl Fender recommended that teachers use the Work Based Learning Program.
