-there are some legal issues with having students as interns

-Karl mentioned that district can do a work based learning to get around legal issues and the students could also earn credit.

We also talked about using Craigslist to find opportunities for our students to get experience in the media field.

    Career Instruction

We all agreed that it is very important that our students gain some business and marketing skills if they want to pursue a career in the media field. Most of the industry professional mentioned that most of their time is spent marketing their skills and services.

Glenn mentioned that people new to the business need to learn how to price themselves and understand the use of contracts and marketing.

We talked about current Economic Trends

Glenn is down 40% from last year in his business. He said that most everyone he knows is doing everything they can to just stay alive until the economy turns around.

We also talked about using online sites like I –stock photo to do market research. This would be a good lesson to see what is selling and why.

We talked about CTE pathways and how important it is for our students to have a good opportunity to develop a reel or portfolio and to gain some on the job experience through internships

We also talked about inviting members from the community colleges to be part of our advisory committee.

It was also mentioned that it would nice to join forces with the Mukilteo school district and their Advisory committee as we are both doing the same thing

Next meeting we will be talking about our program evaluation and the 2 year plan. We also said that we would do some research and contact local colleges to find out about Tech Prep credit for our programs.

Ralph Portillo showed up just after 5:30 and I briefed him on what we did. He mentioned that he had some CC contacts and that he would contact them and get back to us with some information. He mentioned that maybe we could have some of our students audit some of the media classes at the different colleges in the area.
