    “TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING WORKSHOP”



    WHEN      Monday, July 6 to Thursday, July 9



    TIME      9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

         12:00 to 1:00 Lunch break; brown bag or dine at various restaurants



    LOCATION    Seattle Central Community College, 1701 Broadway, Seattle

         Room B1110 Mon, Tues, Thurs

         Room 3156 Wednesday (Computer room)



    PRESENTER    Cathi Bouton, ASL Teacher at U. of Alaska Fairbanks;

         MA in Applied Linguistics; ASLTA Professional Level

         Certification; and owner of Visualize ASL.



    CONTENT    The workshop will incorporate second language acquisition issues, ASL grammar and the creation of lesson plans and will be useful for the new as well as seasoned instructor. The workshop will be very hands-on with an exception that each teacher will come prepared to share current activities for discussion and modification.



     Day 1    Understanding the Task-Based Language Teaching approach:

         Theoretical perspectives and current literature

     Day 2    Looking at types of tasks and ASL grammar features

     Day 3 & 4  From Theory to Practice: Modification and creation of lesson plans to conform to the TBLT approach. Teachers will leave the workshop with at least four complete lesson plans & materials for each lesson



    LANGUAGE    Training will be conducted in ASL.

         No voice interpretation will be provided.



    WHAT TO BRING  Cathi will send out a request in advance, so you can gather your

         thoughts and send it to her via email.



    CREDIT    24 clock hours (pending status)

         RID CEUs – ask me no later than May 15th



    FEE      Free for Washington State ASL Consortium members

         Non-consortium members: $200.00
