a. | Math: can be used in Floral area by having students find answers to problems related to retail mark up, price out of arrangements, determining quantity of flowers needed for specific events and pricing, using a computer is expected, give estimates for orders, use basic math. In horticultural areas could be used to determine percent markup, how many flats needed for # of plugs, how many flats will fit on benches/ how much space is needed for flats, soil volumes, accurate measurements, etc. In the area of animal science: conversions of feed/rate of gain, dosages of vaccines /meds, measurement skills, metric/standard (American) measure conversions |
3. | Communication methods: advisory committee members had various input. |
a. | Mike: use computer, keep records on the computer, phone interactions make up the main communication with customers. An employee would also be expected to use Nextel radios and be able to communicate clearly with delivery drivers and other stores via phone or computer. | |
b. | Dee: In horticulture they are using Nextel radio, radio/CB in trucks, email, telephone, written notes, in person communication |
4. | Documentation: |
a. | Mike: almost all on computer, some on employee bulletin board, some state notices | |
b. | Dee: Nursery MSDS sheets, pesticide records and crop records are kept in computer and in files that are collected by taking notes by hand. |
5. | Professionalism: |
a. | Mike: name tag, apron, professional dress, positive attitude and ability to work with public and other workers. Dependable (shows up when expected), some evenings or weekend work is required, not much flexibility in schedule (shop hours). | |
b. | Dee: mostly the same type of characteristics that Mike listed though with her job there is more flexibility in the schedule must be able to present well to public, must work some weekends. |
