    Welcome –

Carl Welcomed the General Advisory council and stated that this would be our last meeting of the year.

    MTAG Feedback

Carl talked about the MTAG meeting that he attended on Monday, May 3rd. Fourteen students had displays, Granite Falls took 1st place with a car design, Jackson High school won $500.00 for 1st robotics presentation. The event was very well received all around focus was on manufacturing, industry and education.

Discussion items from previous meeting with Dr. Cohn

Carl asked the question what does it mean for a student to be work, career and college ready? The group responded with different programs from area community colleges with hands on learning covering Auto tech, airframe repair, overhaul aircraft, welding and other areas of aero space. John felt that there is a disconnect with CTE programs offerings and industry demand. Amy and John felt there is a perception that Community colleges is less than an 4 year college. It was felt among the committee that Math, English, soft skills and problem solving be a strong foundation for a 2 year college as well as a 4 year college. With strong academic skills and a certificate in a program area, a student could be very successful in obtaining employment. The group strongly agreed that CTE is a powerful way to explore a profession and what drives success as a college student or in the workforce.

    Two Year Plan

Carl went over the two-year plan with the advisory committee. In the area of curriculum instruction it was a recommendation to keep the manufacturing piece in place, and to have guest speakers from industry in the classroom to discuss their areas of employment, especially where gender is a factor in different fields for students to be able to relate. That related topic to also appear in the goal area of program marketing.

Carl will make the additions, and have the document ready for signature of the chairperson.

    Celebrations

Carl thanked the committee for their service and encouraged them to serve next school year. A recommendation for new members was requested. A certificate of recognition for valuable service and contributions to Career and Technical programs.

    Next Year

Area of focus that were discussed were, to visit different programs in action during class time. Class presentations from different community professionals. Having a small group of students on the advisory committee meetings for student input.

When a date is decided on the CTE fall kick-off, members will be notified to add to their calendars.
