Minutes December 16, 2010 minutes were distributed and approved.
Legislative Session and Impact on Basic Ed and CTE A handout on Secretary Duncan’s prepared remarks regarding pathways to prosperity a report from the Harvard graduate school of education pathways to prosperity project was given to the advisory for reading and information.
Everett Public Schools Budget Information A news release from Dr. Gary Cohn and house bill report SHB 1710 was also handed out and there was a group discussion on the impact to CTE programs with budget implications.
Follow-up on a Letter to the Superintendent and Legislature from John Monroe John shared information on manufacturing as a career choice and some percentages on older workers of the workforce in Snohomish County. There was discussion on how to communicate to students and parents that it is acceptable to have a career in the trades and those jobs are well paying jobs.
CTE Student Guest Students gave an overview of there CTE classes and their future plans after graduation.
The group had discussions with students on skills that the workforce was looking for in an employee and the importance of social networking and on line etiquette applications. Angel Lopez and Amy Percell invited students to explore the Work Source website for tools to find jobs and build resumes, cover letters, complete job applications on line, and get tips to have an edge on interviews.
