Present:

Welcome and Introductions:

Carl started off the meeting with a welcome and introductions

 





District Strategic Plan

The advisory members were emailed several documents to review before the meeting. One of them was the district strategic plan. Carl asked the group for their input and how they felt about Everett Public Schools draft district strategic plan.

After discussion, opinions were impressed with 100% graduation goal for all students. Teaching to 21st century skills. The district looking at ethic diversity for all students.

Innovation clearly seen. completive global learning. Cross Credit for program classes.

Drop out rate decreased.

 
· A lengthy discussion took place on students becoming hands on learners.
· Teaching in a diverse way
· How to take classes into 21st century skills
· Creative thinking
· Curriculum that would be accepted by all universities and two year colleges
· Partnerships with colleges and community
· Link with businesses and satisfy needs of business with a workforce of graduates
· A district plan to take a stand on industry driven skills
· Deliver students that are ready to go into industry entry level, ready to work, and trainable
· Begin training students at an early age
· Students be assessed for career readiness before going into industry
· Every teacher to teach to 21st century skills
· Prepare students to take and pass entry level exams for the workforce and colleges
· Prepare students with certificates in manufacturing and other industries to demonstrate that students are ready to work
· Take students into industries to talk to employees and show them what actually goes on in work places
· Mentorships and Externships


 

 





District STEM Work Plan

 

Carl handed out a STEM document outlining CTE STEM courses, pathways to post secondary establishing pathways articulated with local community colleges and universities including Engineering, Biotechnology, Health Science and Computer Science.

 

A draft implementation plan laying out Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III identify current courses that can be cross credited, identify elective courses and establish postsecondary alignment with local colleges and universities. Establish partnerships with industry to support internships and externships. Possible cross credit courses in Science, Technology/Engineering and Math courses was within the document for review.

 

Conversation on this draft outline will be discussed at the next meeting.

One council member expressed concern of pushing out arts, music, etc, which is a creative piece of curriculum.
