Discussion and input of district strategic plan, pathways to prosperity, district STEM board report and district STEM work plan were covered again briefly.

The group all felt that 21st century skills should be the main focus and all students have options for 4 year college, military, apprentice and 2 years colleges and have career options, and all students have a skill set high enough to be successful when applying for employment. Other areas the advisory felt important;

· Ability to adapt and apply working as a team
· Focus on demands for employment and what skills employers are asking for
· Communicate, articulate skills in the work place
· Expand opportunities for students to be involved in elements of change
· Implementation of career/college articulation for community colleges and 4 year colleges with high schools
· Teaching the most current environment tied into the workforce and coming together with workforce and education
· Align students with employer needs

Legislative / Senate Update on Education

Carl spoke to the group on current legislative updates.

National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) – handout

Carl handed out information on National Career Readiness Certificate pilot that several districts will be involved in testing. This would be an industry driven test that will be given to all sectors of the economy. The test is evidence based credential that certifies essential skills needed for workplace success. Students would then receive a National Career Readiness Certificate to add to their portfolio upon passing.
