Present:

John Monroe, Nick Alvanos, Curtis Takahashi, Suzette McClelland, Robert Sotak, Carl Fender and Diane Storm, recorder

 

Welcome and Introductions:

Carl welcomed everyone and the group introduced themselves.

 





Minutes from April 13, 2012 meeting

Minutes were approved. Carl reviewed some topics from the minutes from April.

Discussion on National Career Readiness Certificate pilot that several districts will be involved in testing. Everett Public Schools has 80 licenses to test seniors in all high schools to gather information for future evaluations.

 





Review / Update from past meeting on Everett Public Schools STEM

Updated draft information on STEM was distributed with visions of the district and

implementation plan of goals.
· The group discussed that this is a state wide problem and critical for graduates to have skills for entry level manufacturing jobs.
· Changes in some courses, there is a gap with education and business.
· Have post second ready for the work force
· Graduates leave with a strong foundation to be successful in entry level requirements
· Critical thinking skills for all students starting at an elementary level fine turning skills and using a multi layer approach


 





STEM Symposium Aug 22 & 23

Carl talked about Everett Public School STEM symposium and asked the group to schedule it on their calendars.

 





Feed Back

Two articles that were emailed to the advisory were not discussed due to time. Carl asked for feed back and comments on Learning That Works, a TIME article, Investing in America’s Future, A blueprint for transforming Career and Technical Education.

Other handouts were CTE STEM program advisory review and goal setting and STEM program review process questionnaire.
