    Operating Procedures

     

     





    Mission

     

     The mission of the Everett Public Schools General Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education is to promote collaboration between business, industry, and labor and specific educational programs preparing youth to enter and succeed in their chosen career. Through the collaboration of educators and industry, the council accelerates the responsiveness of schools to the needs of a constantly changing labor market. The General Advisory Council assists school district administration in making policy recommendations to the school board and in developing and implementing a two year plan.

     





    Responsibilities

     

     The General Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education has these major roles:
    · Advise school district administration and board of directors.
    · Assist program staff by providing and recommending guest speakers and internship opportunities.
    · Provide support and advocacy for quality education and training.
    · Approve the bi-annual program of work.


     





    Membership

     

     Advisory council members are appointed by school district administration for a term of one, two, or three years. A three-year rotation of members is desirable. Written documentation of all appointments will be kept on file. The strength of an advisory council is reflected in the diversity of its membership. Every attempt will be made to balance the gender, ethnicity, and occupation areas of the members. It is recommended that an equal number of employees and employers be represented.

     

    The Chairperson, Career and Technical Education program administrator, and program instructors, working in partnership, are responsible for facilitating the work of the council, and for keeping school district administration and the school board informed of the council’s activities. The Chairperson of the General Advisory Council may not be a school district employee, and will be selected by a vote of the members following open nominations.

     

    Responsibility of the chairperson:
    · Attend all meetings.
    · Plan council meetings and agenda with administrators and/or teachers.
    · Move members toward consensus decision-making.


    Responsibilities of the chairperson continued:
    · Approve minutes before distribution to council members.
    · Evaluate council efforts and communicate accomplishments to the community.


     

    Responsibility of council members:
    · Attend all council meetings
    · Serve as a community link between your represented profession and Everett Public Schools.
    · Advise Everett Public Schools on the current industry standards to ensure that curriculum taught in today’s schools will prepare students for what to expect when they enter the work force.
    · Participate in the evaluation, review and planning for the Career and Technical Education program.
    · Assist in recruiting General Advisory Council Members and Advisory Committee Members for each pathway.
    · Serve as a resource to Everett Public Schools by providing or finding work based learning experiences, classroom guest speakers, job shadow and internship opportunities for students.


     





    Procedures

     

     The General Advisory Council will meet quarterly. The first meeting of each school year will be in late September or October. Meeting dates for the remainder of the year will be set at that time.

     

     An agenda will be developed and mailed to members prior to each meeting. Minutes will be recorded for each meeting and mailed to council members prior to the next meeting.

     

     The General Advisory Council will strive to reach consensus in making recommendations to the administration for program improvements.

     





    Annual Review

     The General Advisory Council will conduct an annual review of its effectiveness.
