    4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

    In attendance

Community Members; Sandy DeLisle and Kimi Shigetani

     Student: Jeigh Pike

Everett Public Schools: Rose Smith, Larry Galli, and Lauren Hadley

The meeting began with a tour given by Debbie Cossey of the career and technical education classrooms at H.M. Jackson High School.

Following the tour, official business was called to order by Sandy DeLisle. Rose Smith provided a handout of the guiding principles and the purpose of Career and Technical Education (CTE) General Advisory Council and it was reviewed.

The job-shadow placement opportunity for teachers was discussed. Lauren suggested tracking teacher interests and needs to target job-shadow opportunity recruitment with local businesses. A teacher survey was discussed. A survey can help determine what teachers need, their interests and what will help them be more successful. Where do teachers need to go to get more valuable information that will help them in the classroom was another question to include in the survey.

The group brainstormed strategies about how to recruit members for Program Advisory Committees for the following pathways: Business and Marketing, Technology and Industry, Auto Technology, Health and Human Services and Agriculture and Science. Teachers need to be solicited to provide names and addresses of community contacts.

Strategies were discussed on how to link General Advisory Council and Program Advisory Committees. It was suggested that an e-mail list serve for both the council and committee would be helpful.

Career and Technical Education standards were distributed, and focus was placed on exploratory and preparatory courses. A roster of CTE teachers, a course list and enrollment figures for October were also distributed.

Election of Chairperson for 2002–2003 and 2003–2004 was postponed until next meeting.
