The ability to make transitions successfully, the ability to adapt to change and the skills an applicant brings to compliment the workplace are all factors in his decisions.

    Committee work update

Lauren Hadley reported this year’s work plan for pathway advisory committees and distributed a report on their work to date.

Meeting one will address course offerings and program marketing, meeting two will address leadership and employability skills and career development and planning and meeting three will address the two year plan.

The work for the year was developed to offer discussion around declining enrollment in CTE classes. CTE staff will be assessing enrollment this year and asking the General Advisory Council for input. A long discussion followed regarding questions the council had regarding Everett Public Schools CTE program. The group had questions regarding statistics, target audience and trends. CTE staff will bring the requested information to the next meeting for the council to review.

    Information requested:
    · Enrollment history to show declining FTE including male vs. female, which pathway, diversity, non-traditional roles
    · What is happening in other districts regarding CTE FTE
    · Male and female enrollment in four year universities
    · Graduation statistics, where are students going after high school
    · What does the district and CTE do to capture the marginalized students
    · What does the district do to support the thirteenth year plan

Nick Alvanos added that as an employer, diversity is something the city is striving towards. The work is there if the training is received. The qualified pool of applicants is dwindling, we can not hire if they do not apply. The city offers competitive wages and has great benefits.

Are our students prepared for industry?

This discussion was moved to the next meeting to incorporate the data requested by the council.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:07.

    Respectfully submitted by:

    Barbara E. Mayson, secretary

    Career and Technical Education Department

    Everett School District #2
