Welcome:
Larry Galli welcomed everyone, community members and staff introduced themselves.
Two-year Plan
The Career/Technical two-year plan was reviewed. Larry Galli went over the goal areas of the plan, and asked the committee for their recommendations. Curriculum Development – Murray Reid stated that soft skills should be a strong part of the curriculum. Sue Ambler Ambler felt that material manufacturing is missing in CTE curriculum development areas, Kimi Shigetani agreed. The council added project lead the way to the list of new programs to review. Program Marketing - Sue Ambler Ambler felt that if parents were more aware of CTE classes and understanding what classes were available, it might help students decide what choices to make when parents sign off on class selections. It was suggested to market CTE classes at a fall fair or parent night. Sue Ambler also recommended that CTE leverage district initiatives to promote CTE. The students of color career fair was added to the schedule of activities. Career Component – A meeting with Stephanie Brockouse from Snohomish County Workforce Development Council was added to the schedule of activities. No changes were made to the Leadership section. Advisory Committee – Murray Reid and Angel Lopez both expressed interest in the CTE summer conference. Sue Ambler will be there with a colleague presenting the new career trees developed by the WDC.
Advisory Committee
Larry Galli invited the community members to WA-ACTE summer conference August 6-9 in Spokane. Kimi Shigetani and Sue Ambler Ambler told the group that is was a great experience, and a way to learn more about career/technical education.
Advisory Committee Additional Comments or Ideas
Sue Ambler Ambler thanked the staff for offering a plan review that offered the council time to provide feedback rather than just “rubber stamping” a proposal.
