Welcome and Introductions
State Initiatives Carl talked about state initiatives starting with this year, Math- Algebra 1 and Geometry. Science ,next year- Biology. Hot topic is course equivalency and cross credit. Could be changes with budget deficit impact on Everett Public Schools.
Carl will be submitting course re approvals for family and consumer science, CTE frameworks to OSPI. 4 year cycle for re approvals.
Career and College Ready The group discussed what their industry was looking for in employing high schools and college students. All seemed to agree that they must be responsible, show for work on time everyday, trainable, performance, good communication skills.
STEM Initiative Curriculum of manufacturing for students to aviation focused on stem programs. Partnership with Sno-Isle or Washington Aero Space at EdCC for skills to focus on manufacturing jobs with CTE elements.
Recruitment of advisory Members Discussion of having teachers send invitations home with students for community, parents to have an opportunities to serve on CTE advisory committees.
Program Tours Visiting classrooms was agreed to be a great idea. Also, touring plants of a manufacturing nature for students to see how that work is done.
Agenda Items for next Meeting Invite Dr. Cohn for discussions. Invite CTE students from photo, robotics, marketing/business in for discussions.
