Overview of FCS classes that Everett Public Schools offers

 

Trends: Occupational Outlook:

Michelle-drug and alcohol prevention
· Programs need to be at best practice
· Seeing more movement in environment issues-resulting in prevention
· Diversity interactions (challenge)


 

Debbie W-
· Baby boom-retirement
o Change in leadership roles
o Interpersonal relations-change of labor pool
o Qualities of food prep workers
o Corie-asked about food prep


 

Nancy V-
o Starting to show sings of “no child left behind” at the college level
o No one know how to cook, loss of nutritional facts
o Foods and Nutrition (cooking) class need to be mandatory
o Portion control
o Brandon-not cook is due to instant gratification (cooking takes time)


 

Pam W.E.-
o Aging work force (50+) in Public Health
o Employers need to be comfortable with technology
o Public Health = prevention = working on
o Working with food banks, schools, farmers in SC
o 20% (1 out of 5) are adult smokers
o Drop in youth smoking rate
§ Increase in senior class smoking rates
o Main reason kids smoke = parents smoke
o Chew tobacco = more highly addictive


 

Trends in Mental Health-
o More education = life experiences
o Half evidence based and half interpersonal relations
