Subject: Advisory Member Survey
Discussion: Ideas about how to change/improve the Advisory Kick-off meeting. Somethings brought up were: have a better purpose out there known. Better speakers, serve dinner if you are going to hold it over the dinner hour. Move the meeting up so that it wasn't so late, maybe more people could come if it was earlier. Maybe have it at the end of the year instead of in the Fall. Count the meeting as one of the meetings that we must hold as an advisory committee. The community member present at this meeting was still unclear of the purpose of the Advisory Kickoff.

She pointed out that some of the Grads Programs in other districts have lost their license daycare and so that Sequoia is really happy that they still are able to hold their license and still maintain operations. Diane reviewed and presented the Essential Elements for the Grads Program.

Subject: Suggestions for Child Development class
Discussion: Committee brainstormed adding more guest speaker ideas. Debbie Webber's intern. Monica Lochrie described and talked about the scope and sequence she does at Jackson High School. She discussed about the baby simulators, empathy belly, and activities. Kim Fisher talked about how she has her students plan a baby shower before the babies arrived. She talked about how students learned how to properly plan an event, sign up for food, games, etc. They also filled out their DAP sheet (Developmentally Appropriate activities). Leslie posed the question to committee member, "Do you have any ideas for guest speakers"? Carol Good, committee member recommended a teen mom, a licensurer, look at how much will child care cost, looking at the pros and cons of child care options. She suggested to contact The Department of Child Care Licensing for guest speakers. She also brought up about the idea of helping student realizing their own emotional intelligence. John Gottman's work. What would it be like if I had a child different than me? Looking at their personality traits and temperament. The Babies movie was discussed about how that could possibly be utilized for diversity and culture. A website Autism Speaks is a great website to that has video links that illustrate what a typical child reacts/acts in comparison to a child who has autism.
Another thing the committee member suggested was regarding toddler development is a resource called Circle of Security organization based in Spokane has a video called Shark Music that pertains to Toddler development.
