    Introductions

    Everyone introduced themselves and what they do


    FCCLA Update

    4 teams earned gold at state competition in Wenatchee 3/20-3/23

    3 teams will compete at nationals in Orlando 7/6-7/14

    Cocoon House donation drive, looking for more community service opportunities


    Purpose and Restructuring of Advisory

    1. Discussion on purposes and restructuring  

    2. Brief overview of FCS classes and main units

    3. Passed out paper with FCS courses main topics

    4. Clarifying questions about Independent Living and Child Development

    5. Discussion about trends toward community colleges and need for student transition from waiting for help to asking for help


    Identify Areas of Need and Expertise

    1. FCS teachers identified units and areas of instruction they would like to learn more about

    2. Industry representatives identified important areas of FCS curriculum they could teach us about

    3. Discussed Independent Living

     - Importance of consumer financial education, especially credit

     - Incentives to create relevancy for students, feedback from students on most useful lessons

     - Some essential points for job interviewing, handshake and appearance

    - Rick is available for classroom presentations

     - Useful skills for living on your own not always incorporated, sewing and clothing care

       -Talk to Julie for more information

    4. Brief discussion on Nutrition

     - Hookah bars and smoking growing problem

                     - Keri will bring more information next meeting

     - More information wanted from teachers about the new MyPlate

    - Changes to school lunch program

    - Develop new recipes with district

       -Joanna will find some information for the next meeting

    - Necessity of table manners in professional and casual setting

    5. Brief discussion on Child Development

     - New brain research, update current information

    - Sticker regulations for child care providers

       -Correne will find some books and information to share

     - New practices for female healthcare

       - Brittany will share more next meeting


    Rick Peterson is the Industry Liaison for 2011-12 school year

     
    - Will work with Monica to create agendas, etc.
