6:00 Welcome-Introduction
In attendance: Kirsten Harvey, Brenda Black, Tracey Theriault, Lauren Hadley, Jaime Ablutz
6:05 Trends in Sports Medicine
Jaime: PT Schooling is now Masters to a Doctorate degree, takes 7 years total
Tracey: Currently in school nursing positions the student to nurse ratio is double what it should be causing work overload
Brenda: Has been taking part in a concussion study out of Ohio State
6:45 Sports Medicine program needs – what is missing in the curriculum?
1. The general consensus is that the current curriculum covers all topics well. The one area that could use more coverage is skin infection/conditions and/or MRSA infections.
2. A general discussion in current concussion trends followed, sharing information from the athletic training to the nursing aspects of concussion evaluation and management protocols.
7:25 Leadership skills – What do you look for in an employee when looking to promote them? What qualities do your rising stars have?
From everyone: communication, organization, CEU, prompt, professional, dependable, trainable, take direction, calm with emergencies, knowledgeable, critical thinking skills, positive attitude toward teamwork, 1st aid/ CPR certified, understand para-education requirements and RN led classes
